Describe the issue in detail

Since this UI lets you show runtimes:

…shouldn't the "Packages" list button in the sidebar on the left say "Packages & Runtimes" instead of only "Packages"? That way users can have a hint that runtimes can actually be found in there if they go digging a bit for the filter view.

If you also want to give extra hints: the 2nd/main column's title label could also indicate the current filter scope, so instead of saying just "Packages" it could say something like "Showing packages only" vs "Showing runtimes only" vs "Packages & Runtimes".

Saying "Packages & Runtimes" implies that runtimes aren't packages, but they are. Applications and runtimes are both packages, so that's why the page says packages. I could change it to say "Applications & Runtimes", but I don't really think that that's necessary.

Ah, I see your point, but that seems like a very theoretical jargon technicality. If even I didn't know of this distinction and considered applications and packages mostly synonymous, I presume it could confuse other less technical users too. UIs don't always have to be a 1:1 representation of an API, I think :)

I understand if you prefer to keep the name of the sidebar's entry as-is, then;
Alternatively, maybe a tooltip on hover could solve that discoverability problem, at least for desktop users?

Hmm Im starting to see your point now. Perhaps "Apps & Runtimes" is a good fit? I don't want the name to be too too long. Another option could be just "Installed", tho now that I think about it, that might be too similar to "Install Packages".

Actually that raises a point, if the packages page should be renamed, does that apply to the install packages page too? (you can get both apps and runtimes there)

I think it would be closer to the language of casual users out there, indeed!

That's a tricky question ;)

Globally, there's another way to see it too: currently the first 4 items in the sidebar's list are categories, while the 5th item is worded like an action... of the same category as the 1st item, as you noted. You don't have such a distinction for "Remotes"...
Have you considered making that 5th "Install Packages" item a sub-page of the 1st "Apps & Runtimes" item, by having a "+" button (with explanatory tooltip maybe) in the Packages / "Apps & Runtimes" page's header area, next to the search button? (maybe the "Search Packages" tooltip and searchentry should be renamed to "Search currently installed packages" or something like that, to make it clear it's not a search-to-install feature)

Better yet, just split the list into two cards - Applications, and below that Runtimes?
