Description
Hi,
It looks to me Bracket is missing a type of tournament (or stage item as of Bracket terminology) which is very popular in French tennis clubs : multiple draft picks tournament (in French : "Tournoi multi-chances").
In this type of tournament, it all starts with a regular "single elimination tournament" with a number of players which is a power of 2 (2, 4, 8...).
Winners of the first round follow up the tournament in this main bracket.
Losers get selected for a new, two times smaller bracket.
And so on... At each round, winners follow up the bracket they are in and losers qualify for a two times reduced bracket, until they reach a final round.
All players are assured of playing exactly the same number of games and get ranked from the first to the last.
I join an example with all necessary brackets for a 16 players tournament. After the first round, the 8 winners follow up to compete for rank 1 to 8 and the 8 losers qualify for a new bracket to compete for rank 9 to 16th, and so on. In French tennis clubs, this type of tournament is often played on a single day. Every player plays 4 games and at the end of the day all players are ranked from the 1st to the 16th.
It is important to be able to schedule games as soon as possible i.e schedule games of the second round even if the first round has not completely come to an end.
Kind regards,
Thierry
