This is a high-level tracking issue for us to keep track of major problem areas in state sync.

  • Nodes sending snapshots which contain 0 chunks
  • Our team is not totally familiar with the differences between state sync in v0.36.x and main
  • We are unsure of what a holistic, good design for state sync currently looks like

Solutions

Let's try to keep our focus on the problem space as far as possible. Ideally recommendations as to solutions should clearly articulate the problem they're trying to solve.

Hello @thanethomson; recently we have discovered at EmpowerChain ( @gjermundgaraba ) and BitCanna that State Sync is failing at CometBFT v.0.37.1 (SDK v0.47.2)

I have reproduced the issue running clean chains with EmpowerChain binary and BitCanna alpha binary.

Hi @RaulBernal,
Thanks for reporting this. This is a "tracking issue" that we use mainly for planning our work.
Would you mind opening a "Bug report" issue with a detailed report of the problem ? That bug report template has several questions (version, logs, etc) that help us speed up the triage of problems. The bug report also helps us track progress and interactions for that particular problem.

I would add as a task improving the logging of state sync, for example, from the input provided by #3629
