This is a feature request to add the ability to manually type out a timestamp, and manually edit existing timestamps as text. This would be useful for fine-grained timestamp control.

Timestamp format as text would presumably match how a timestamp already looks: (mm:ss). It could still be highlighted as it already is, but should be editable as text.

Example Use Case

  • User hits CTRL+J 5 seconds early. Playback continues for a few seconds.
  • The user pauses playback near, but not quite exactly where, they'd prefer to put the timestamp.
  • The user sees in the playback bar the number of seconds that they want exactly.
  • The user edits the text of the timestamp so it's in the perfect spot they wanted it to be at.

Existing functionality for adding/editing timestamps appears to be entirely through inserting a timestamp from the current point in time. (Unless I missed something in the Help: https://otranscribe.com/help/)

There is a workaround for the existing functionality though, making use of pause and "Jump to Time":

  • Pause playback
  • Use the "Jump to Time" feature to set the exact time
  • Insert automatic timestamp
