question about scripts

i was wondering the preferred method for script bin finding, think thats the right way to phrase.

basically, i've noticed some people use node_modules/.bin/script whereis script seems to work automagically.

also when npm automagically finds the bin, does it try using things installed globally into system path first? just trying to figure out if there is any downside to allowing npm to find the bin.
