- Windows: 10.0.19045
- PowerShell: 5.1.19041.4957

📝 Description

  1. Install the Spotify Desktop App with SpotX as described in the FAQ
  2. Make a free account and start using spotify
  3. Around a week after, the account gets a forced password change with no notification; use reset tool to keep using.
  4. Around a week after again, the account is just deleted and have to be re-created. I re-create the account.
  5. Around a week after, the account once again gets a password change with no notification.
  6. Around a week after, the account is once again deleted.
  7. Contacts the Spotify support; tells them that my account keep being deleted, and asks why. After checking the account, this is their only response :

  8. The account cannot be recreated after that; the sign up form to recreate the account says that the email is already associated to an account, but logging in says that the email or password is not right. Trying to reset the password says that the email is not associated to any account.

It was my first time using Spotify; and despite my VPN, there is nothing else in particular that I used that could influence it, except SpotX. I haven't downloaded any song from Spotify, simply listening through the desktop app. The email adress I used for my Spotify account was an alias address that I used nowhere else on the internet except on Spotify.

That, coupled with the response from the support, makes me believe that Spotify might have a way to detect SpotX users, or maybe users that never get adds ?

In any case, good luck with your project. The instructions are very clear, installation was superbly easy. I hope everything works out !

You should write to support again to re-clarify the issue, because in your screenshot I see an automated system response without any information that actually clarifies the situation

Thanks for checking the issue, @amd64fox !

I'm sorry if I haven't been clear; the screenshot came after I went through the automated prompts and got to talk to a human being. After saying that they were checking the account, they came back with this answer a few minutes later, and the chat session was closed before I could add anything else.

I didn't thought it would be useful to try again seeing their response, but I'll take a look.

I know that there is no absolute proof in what I bring here. But I still thought that this was important to share.

Quick update : I've reached out to the support again. Had a different person (or a least a different nickname) taking care of me. I asked why I couldn't access my account anymore. The person re-instaured my account; I asked if they could tell me why the account was deleted, or if I'd done anything wrong. They gave me a generic response saying :

Rest assured, Spotify is secure and our records are protected. We always check for leaks online from other services and alert those who might’ve been affected to change their passwords.
If your current password also works for other sites, it’s best to update it to one you haven’t used anywhere else.

(Note that I've been using a random password and a one-time burner email alias, so I couldn't have been flagged as a leaked address on other websites).

So, I couldn't get any confirmation as to why the account was deleted. I'll keep using it with SpotX and see what goes on. Will update here if something comes up.

Again, thanks for the project; apologies if this was a waste of time.
