This blog post from the JSON-schema folks seems like a decent starting point to improve our currenrt inheritance modeling: https://json-schema.org/blog/posts/modelling-inheritance

Currently the additionalProperties: true setup is allowing more properties then we want into our schema validated objects.

Also recommend an NPM package update to be a part of this. Will need a newer version of AJV at least
