Agnostic Front was the first band in a genre called
hardcore. I was one year old when they formed and I could not tell you what it was like, so here, in the words of the founder of hardcore,
Roger Miret, is a quote on how it happened:
A friend asked me where the term "Hardcore" orginated. Not that I´m the Hardcore expert, but I said that to me Hardcore was a movement and not two distinct styles of music. Unity wasn´t just something you read on a flyer, it lived in our hearts. In my opinion, Hardcore was always the aborted child of punk. It´s street music for rebellious kids from all backgrounds. Every year our voice growing Worldwide. New bands, new faces, new energy and today the music means as much as it ever did.
Roger Miret is the father of hardcore for good reason. Not only has he been singing for the seminal hardcore band for as long as I've been alive, but he has every possible scar to prove it including a broken back from a stagediving incident. No permanent damage was suffered in the incident, but it was truly "hardcore".
Agnostic Front released their tenth album earlier this month called, "
Dead Yuppies".
I'd also like to mention that Agnostic Front was close friends with
Ray Beez, who actually played drums on their first album. Ray Beez taught me one very important lesson. On fliers for hardcore shows out here in
California you will occasionally see "
R.I.P. Ray Beez" written on the bottom. Upon inquiring as to how Ray Beez met his end, I found out that he literally toured to death. He died of the
flu basically and had he not been so dedicated to what he was doing he could have simply seen a doctor, rested and gotten better. I never knew him but Ray Beez is the guy who reminds me to take care of myself. At the time of his death Ray was fronting a band called
Warzone.
