From Ottoman Turkish [script needed] (drahoma), from Greek τράχωμα (tráchoma, dowry given in money), from Byzantine Greek τραχύ (trakhú, trachy, a kind of Byzantine silver coin, literally rough, eneven), neuter of τραχύς (trakhús, rough, eneven), referring to the concavity of the coins.
