Etymology
editIn view of its meaning and the variant greth "flax-combings", likely from a diminutive *grabth of Proto-Albanian *graba, an o-grade noun related to kreh.[1] Alternatively, with voicing of initial, from krath (“leaf bud, sprout on a tree”), variant of kranth ~ krëndth, diminutive of krand ~ krënd (“brushwood; tinder”).[2] Finally, Çabej derives it from *granth, diminutive in -th from South Slavic (cf. Serbo-Croatian grana (“branch; brushwood”), Macedonian гранка (granka), dialectal Bulgarian гран (gran)).[3]
Noun
editgrath m (plural grathë, definite grathi)
