editInherited from Sanskrit भक्त (bhaktá), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰaktás, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰh₂g-tó-s, from the root *bʰeh₂g- (“to divide, distribute”). Cognate to Maharastri Prakrit 𑀪𑀢𑁆𑀢 (bhatta), Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀪𑀢𑁆𑀢 (bhatta).
