editFirst attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 그듸 (Yale: kùtùy), originally equivalent to 그 (Yale: ku, “that/there”, i.e. the direction of the addressee) + 듸 (Yale: tuy, “place”).
