Etymology

edit

From Pali guṇa (cord; fibre; quality) or from Sanskrit गुण (guṇa, quality, feature, attribute; merit, virtue; etc); probably via Old Khmer គុណ (guṇa, attribute; excellence; interest; merit; property; quality; supernatural power; virtue). Cognate with Lao ຄຸນ (khun); Khmer គុណ (kun); Old Javanese guṇa.
