  7. (baseball) hit a pitched ball with the portion of the bat near where the batter grips it
    • 2021 September 4, “Yakyū ‘tsumaru’ to wa? [What is ‘tsumaru’ in baseball?]”, in Baseball Future[1]:
      Mazu attōteki ni tsumaru gen'in to nari yasui no wa, taimingu ga toreteinai bāi desu. Gyaku ni taimingu ga okurete shimau to batto no heddo ga dete kuru no mo okure, tsumari yasukunatte shimaimasu.
      The most likely cause of tsumaru is that the [batter’s] timing is off. Swing too soon and you will miss the ball or hit it with the end of the bat. On the other hand, swing too late so the head of the bat doesn’t come around and you can easily experience tsumari.
