Flower revert

edit

Hi. I noticed that you reverted a rather large expansion to the flower article today using popups (see [1]). While the expansion was in much need of wikification, it certainly wasn't vandalism, and reverting it without explanation or an attempt to keep valuable material therein will only serve to drive away new editors. I've only glanced over the 10kb addition, but at least some of it would provide depth the article lacks right now. I don't have time to deal with it at the moment, but thought I'd at least point it out to you as I'm assuming (or hoping) you didn't realize what you were doing. NoahElhardt 05:05, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, noted. I suspect copyvio, please revert as you see it fit. Tks. —Sengkang 06:46, 11 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

List of Alabama Metropolitan Areas

edit

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article List of Alabama Metropolitan Areas, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. the Universe

edit

I would like to know why you removed my comment about the size of the universe versus its age. I tried to make it sound as factual and neutral as I could. Distance, time, and velocity are related, so it's difficult to say that an object traveled 45 billion lightyears in only at-most 20 billion years. It would have been polite for you to leave a comment as to where I'm wrong in my logic. I'm always open to learning something new, and so I would enjoy having someone show me how the universe could be larger than the speed of light would allow. 71.209.28.76 04:54, 22 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yishun junior College article

edit

hi, i know that you have edited the YJc article by cancelling the controversy part that i have typed. Could you please give me a reason why you removed it? I am merely stating the facts and there should be transparency. I dont know whether you are from a rival school, but i suggest you should maintain your neutrality. Otherwise, i will have to bring this issue to a person of equivalent rank as you, being a wikipedia member -17:59, February 8, 2007 Nerdbrain456

Pl cite your sources since you claim they are facts. Thank you. —Sengkang 10:03, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

But then, this facts are said by the principal of my school, and i only knew them this year>?so the only source would be my principal lo.I cant find any such source on the internet man.besides if you think in a logical manner,my facts are true lo. - 11:22, February 9, 2007 Nerdbrain456

Pl note that articles should rely on reliable, third-party published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Sources should be appropriate to the claims made: exceptional claims require stronger sources. What is said by the Principal constitutes his or her Point of View and may be biased. Pl read Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:NPOV for more information. Thank you. —Sengkang 03:36, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Clarke Whale Museum Interviews and Exhibits

edit

He Sengkang, I sent you an email, but maybe you're busy. I was wondering why you reverted [2] - as you don't seem to have left any explanation. If like with the Flower revert, you are suspecting copyvio, I can assure you that is not the case, as I created the video content being referenced myself. The Clarke Whale Museum on Pico Azores has many useful exhibits on sperm whales and giant squid, and in the interviews (of which there are 5 on the referenced external page) Prof. Malcolm Clarke discusses and shows us around the museum, and talks in depth about the anatomy of sperm whales (which he has studied for about 40 years). The films also include footage of the lifesize sculpture of the largest whale ever caught in the Azores.

Unspecified source for Image:Kusu island.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Kusu island.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 13:00, 18 March 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Denniss 13:00, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please warn vandals after reverting their edits

edit

Hello. I'm in agreement with the recent revert you made on Astronomy. Not sure if you already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Best regards, Belovedfreak 09:32, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes i know. Thanks. —Sengkang 03:11, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Use WP:TWINKLE, it will open a new window after reverting the vandal. Its very useful. There are extra tabs and you just select from there. If you want to report, its also very easy, you just need to click the report tab. Just copy the script to your monobook. Terence 09:50, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I presume TW cannot be used concurrently with popups. Popups is already causing crashes when I use Firefox. Any similar problems with TW? —Sengkang 02:14, 4 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
TW is better than popups. TW doesn't crash at all, albeit sometimes the TW tabs do not work. However, its still okay and at least you can still revert even though the tabs do not work. This is for my desktop only. And TW does not work for IE. Terence 04:50, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Redundant categories

edit

Please don't place everything under Cat:Sentosa Express and Cat:Sentosa and Cat:Southern Islands --> C:Sentosa Express is already in C:Sentosa, which is in C:Southern Islands. Jpatokal 09:16, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Southern Islands is the planning area for all geographical locations in Sentosa, a move similar to the categorisation of all locations under the other 54 planning areas in Singapore. This is similar to what has been done for places along Orchard Road, where a separate generic category has been created for all places along Orchard Road, and another created for all locations under the Orchard Planning Area. The former specifies the generic geographical location "Orchard Road" while the latter the planning area "Orchard" aka "Orchard Planning Area" as per the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Same for Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar, where locations can fall under the distinct planning areas of Downtown Core or Outram. This makes the locating of places in the Southern Islands Planning Area easier. Hope this clarifies. Hence, it is not redundant per se in that the separate categories serve different purposes. Thanks. —Sengkang 01:01, 4 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I understand that you are a veteran SGpedian and a prolific writer of Singapore-related DYKs. However, how many GAs have you written? On WT:SG!, I suggested we quickly launch the GA drive and increase our GA count from 8 to 10 within a month. You may wish to adopt at least one of the following articles and collaborate with other SGpedians to improve it to GA status: Singapore, Singapore 2006 and The Singapore Stone. --J.L.W.S. The Special One 15:14, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I've not written any GAs in fact. I'll see what I can do to help out. Thanks. —Sengkang 15:54, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thk u for yr assessment on the abv but I wld greatly appreciate if u cld include fair comment (See an example here) on your justification as a 'Start Class' which I'm keen to know why. By including comments on an article's assessment, it wld be meaningful to both the original creator or subsequent editors to understand the basis of its merits and deficiencies for improvement. Due to my involvement & interaction with some WikiProject groups like Schools, Military History & Macau in which such practice is commonly adopted, I hope to see senior SG editors like u adopt such best practices for the betterment of the SGpedia community too. Rgds -- Aldwinteo 05:00, 25 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I've re-evaluated the article and upgraded it to "B" class. Kudos for the good articles that you have created. Your well-researched articles serve as a model for all SGpedians, including myself. —Sengkang 04:32, 26 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thk u for yr re-evaluation. As a guide next time, do check out an article's 'What links here' to see whether it meets the suggested 'Good Article' rule-sets. As for this article, it was identified by 'User:AlexNewArtBot/GoodSearchResult', WikiProject Military History, WikiProject China & more. Tat's y I was curious on yr assessment criteria earlier. Upon receiving such positive feedback or being prodded   by a DYK reviewer, then will I proceed to self-nominate the article if no one do so earlier so as not to miss its nomination dateline. DYK contribution medal
Obrigado, danke, and many other thanks for your hard work writing and submitting articles for the Did you know? section of the Main Page. While numbers are secondary to quality, 25 excellent contributions to the feature definitely deserves recognition, so I'm more than happy to present you with this richly-deserved medal. URGENT! The article The Fullerton Singapore is under threat with a copywright warning. Please save it from any possible deletion thanks. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 17:12, 26 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmm...let's wait and see. Thanks. —Sengkang 01:25, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Copywright is a serious issue. Surely you don't want to see this article deleted The Fullerton Singapore. It seriously needs addressing asap ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 11:54, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've put the The Fullerton Singapore up for speedy deletion as it is has been sitting there for weeks with copywright. As you keep generating new articles it is clear you don't regard copywright or this article important. I am a great fan of your work you know this but copywright is unacceptable. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 09:11, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The page has been blanked. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 09:20, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I am working on it, will take some time. But I am disappointed that you have said that "it is clear you don't regard copywright or this article important". —Sengkang 14:56, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

But you can't wait weeks with copywright. Garion has deleted your article and stubbed it again because it wasn't unfortunately attended to and it had the copywright in the history. I'm a little surprised you didn't edit it particularly as you have been putting so much effort into creating new good articles ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 18:15, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I note your concern. This is a building with lots of history, and there's lots of materials that need to be gathered out there to improve it. While I am creating new articles, it doesn't mean that the article is not impt to me. As specified in the copyvio msg, users are not supposed to alter it. As such, I haved saved a copy of it in my user space, and am working on it there. After I have completed the whole re-vamp, will I transfer it to the temporary talk page at Talk:The Fullerton Singapore/Temp. Noted that it has already been re-created and stubbed. In the meantime, I have asked some of my SGpedians to help. I am just a drop in the ocean after all...haha....You could also chip in to help too... Thanks. —Sengkang 01:00, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am trying to understand the large revert (nearly 4k) to this article you did at 05:07, 27 August 2007. It looked to me that the previous editor's contributions were not vandalism, and it did not seem as if it were a matter of copyright violation, so I just wanted to know why it was taken out. (I am not the editor, btw.) Thanks. Milkfish 00:26, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please note that the editor has simply copied a large chunk of the article and re-pasted it on the same article. Reversion comparison. Thanks. —Sengkang 00:56, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I did not see that at first, because of the difference in formatting. One cannot really see it in the "diffs" but have to search through the older revision to understand what's going on. Milkfish 02:33, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Two hundred percent, I am just an amateur photographer who likes to lug a camera along whenever I commute. So, those are photos that I have accumulated over 2++ years. Nothing quite amazing though. Do you keep an album of your shots either in here or at Commons? —Sengkang 16:58, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Tanjong Katong Primary School, logo.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Tanjong Katong Primary School, logo.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:1992 animal deaths, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Monkey tree, Jurong West, The New Paper, Sep 07.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 21:17, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Sengkang/Sketchpad/Gallery Hotel/Raw

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Sengkang/Sketchpad/Gallery Hotel/Raw requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from {{{value1}}}. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. http://animalandia.educa.madrid.org/imagen.php?id=45732

If you wish (and I hope yes), you can send me (via fernando.lison@educa.madrid.org) some letters or/and a photo for your "contributor profile" in Animalandia:

http://animalandia.educa.madrid.org/autor.php?nombre=Sengkang

I want show to my students (and so everybody) that Animalandia is make for "real person", and I can tell them about "generosity", "share" and other similar words that we use very few at this time...

This is my "contributor profile" and others, for example:

http://animalandia.educa.madrid.org/autor.php?nombre=Fernando%20Lis%F3n%20Mart%EDn

http://animalandia.educa.madrid.org/autor.php?nombre=Carmen%20Jim%E9nez

http://animalandia.educa.madrid.org/autor.php?nombre=David%20P%E9rez

http://animalandia.educa.madrid.org/autor.php?nombre=Steve%20Garvie%20%28Rainbirder%29

In the future, I use more of your photos, I sure!

Thank you for the licence and, of course, for your splendid photos!!

Regards!

Speedy deletion nomination of Banda Street

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Banda Street requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
