Sittwe -- Failed verification
[edit]Regarding Sittwe (film) I believe you're misusing the failed verification tag. There's no requirement that sources be available online or for free to count as verification. This is explained in WP:SOURCEACCESS. I emailed you the article if you're interested but again, I don't think it fails verification per WP:V. Thanks, also, for your work on this article. Useful questions
[edit]Hello EmeraldRange, how are you? Wishing you a good health and happiness in life. This is probably my first time question and I'm glad to ask. I have a question about future article creation. How to create an Wikipedia article? I'm a beginner at this obviously. I'm currently using a mobile and Chrome web browser. I also want to know that if in the future if I get to create it, one of my relative (family member) is a notable drummer and he's qualified enough to be featured here, I think I manage to find 5 or 6 sources (citations) which might be enough. If I get to upload a picture of him, will it be own work or credit to him? He allows full usage of it. Thank you very much, EmeraldRange. KhantWiki signing off. KhantWiki (talk) 20:46, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi nice to hear from you.
- You can create a draft to write the article and then submit it for review through Wikipedia:Articles for creation. You can start to create the draft from the link I put (Wikipedia:Drafts) The steps for review specifically are in this paragraph. Once you write your article, feel free to ping me or leave another message on this talk page if you want me to review and give you advice before submitting it.
- In terms of sources- please note that for a new article, especially on a biography, you need at least one in-depth source to be independent, secondary sources. You might know by now but facebook links and youtube videos are not acceptable to meet this requirement. You can use other kinds of sources to support statements, but the article as a whole needs to be supported by at least one "high quality source".
- As for the photo- it's best if you take the photo yourself and upload that as your own work to Wikimedia Commons. Here are instructions on how to do that.
- Let me know if you have any other questions. EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 21:32, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much, EmeraldRange. Your advice has been incredibly helpful, not just for this article but for understanding how to create others in the future. I really appreciate your guidance and support. If I have more questions I won't hesitate to reach out. It was actually worth the 20-day wait. I've now created the draft article Draft:Pauk Ko Taw. Whenever you have the time, I'd appreciate it if you could take a look and share any feedback. Thank you again for your help, EmeraldRange. KhantWiki (talk) 12:20, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've done some editing of the Draft and here are some specific concerns.
- The sources you found are good to prove that he is a notable person that can have an article as far as I can tell. However, as he is a living person, we have legal requirements to follow WP:BLP policies to avoid legal issues relating to libel.
- Specific issues to address:
- name being synonymous with his affiliation with nationalist cause- sounds like an opinion. this must be cited as someone else's opinion
- Paragraph starting with "The group's controversial stance..." should be more related to the topic. Specificallly, should discuss Pauk Ko Taw's agreement with those stances with cited sources. Otherwise, you should only explain Ma Ba Tha briefly for context (check the Ma Ba Tha article for sources you can use)
- Political leanings are most evident... I already edited this a bit but there's no requirement to talk about political leanings so you have to justify why you are talking about it- specifically that many sources talk about his political leanings.
- widespread condmenation- is it widespread, who condemned?
- Who categorised him as a nationalist? What other categories are there?
- For those last two points: Influence and Criticism is probably better spread out in the rest of the article. Not sure if we need Legacy for same reason
- EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 15:37, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, it's very much excepted to make mistakes especially at first creating articles, for that reason, I just created a draft rather than a real one, small apologizes for those mistakes. I will take great care of the issues you mentioned, particularly BLP policies and citations. I'll also revise the sections you pointed out to avoid legal issues. Once I've updated the draft, I'll make sure to send it for another review. KhantWiki (talk) 15:49, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- no worries, this is why we are reviewing it. Let me know once you fix and I can check.
- I unfortunatelly won't be accepting the draft to be a real article in either case since I'm already involved in editing. EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 17:16, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- I've resubmitted the draft today and I have fixed most of the legal issues related to libel, which might help the article get a better neutral view of WP:NPOV on a WP:BLP. KhantWiki (talk) 14:20, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- you don't need to say alleged human rights abuses for the military if you have a source that shows that there were human rights abuses (instead of just alleging them).
- For the categorisation- you used the phrase "by some". I would replace it with something specific. For example seen by critics like the Women's Rights Network. The source you have there is not sufficient since the part of that article that mentions him doesn't talk about this categorisation of that he is contributing to the conflict.
- Again for the paragraph after- which human rights group? The source only mentions that he was released, not that any human rights groups critcised him specifically.
- You can, by the way, reuse the same source if it covers multiple points instead of finding new sources with very little to do with the subjectEmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 14:32, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- You're right, for the new sources, overall I included them so they will contribute to the overall notability of the subject which will likely increase the chances of becoming a real article apart from a draft. Generally, I remain the most neutral on the military, I'm only citing in the article from what the web shows like United Nations and human rights groups across the world. Only the sources related to the armed forces is on the web, which is mostly apart from Pauk Ko Taw, which might not be necessary to put so, as a sources, which I'm thinking of making a decision, that I could remove the alleged human rights abuses part, even though there are alots of sources about it, they're mostly irrelevant to the article of the subject. However, for the human rights group, there are many who spoke their opinions, including releasing statements about it, it's mainly the United Nations, and the human rights group across from Myanmar (Burma). KhantWiki (talk) 15:04, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- You have already established notability in my opinion. It's mostly about verifiability now. You are allowed to pretty much any reliable source to support all controversial sentences in the article. If it's the United Nations, you should say United Nations not human rights group. If it is "the human rights group across Myanmar" you should find out which specific one. If you can't find one- that sentence probably is not verifiable. It's not relevant enough for wikipedia if a random villager dislikes him or if somebody on twitter criticised him. EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 15:09, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- For confirming the verifiability, you can check out those, seen from the web, such as United Nations, and Burma Human Rights Network. Progressive Voice Myanmar who has criticized the Pyu Saw Htee militias, https://progressivevoicemyanmar.org/2022/03/12/the-rising-of-pyu-saw-htee/ titled "The Rise of Pyu Saw Htee", released on March 12, 2022. For the UN this should do the job https://myanmar.un.org/en/244307-situation-human-rights-rohingya-muslims-and-other-minorities-myanmar-report-secretary and for Burma Human Rights Network, https://bhrn.org.uk/ This should be sufficient for human rights group who has released statements about it. You can check if they're verifiable and sufficient for the claims and statements on the draft article of Pauk Ko Taw. KhantWiki (talk) 15:18, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- Khant, I am not reviewing the draft- other editors will review the draft formally. I'm giving you help on making the draft good to review. As a Burmese I know that the claims you make are true but for wikipedia you still need to show those specific sources and mention them in the text. So instead of "human rights groups critcise him" it should be "The Burma Human Rights Network has criticised him for..." with the citation. EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 18:23, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you EmeraldRange, I recognize that you cannot be reviewing the draft, it's that you're involved in editing, which other draft editors can only review rather than editors. For your help to contributing to make the Wikipedia draft article of Draft:Pauk Ko Taw better and specific, your assistance will not be forgotten as your experience on here is much respected. As for the draft article to be accepted or rejected, it depends on luck, I don't mind much if it will be rejected since it's not wrong, but it has its specific reasons for the rejection. One reviewer said to me that it is not notable enough, even though it is notable due to media coverage and it is well-known. I have significantly made the draft article neutral, sources that are well-cited, encyclopedic and well-written. KhantWiki (talk) 17:17, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes I would disagree with @Jannatulbaqi's review since there are cited articles whose primary in-depth topic is discussing Pauk Ko Taw. But it's up to the reviewer. EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 04:55, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- What you said is decisively correct. Today, after gathering my full evidence, I have re-submitted it again and I have fixed many things. If it still gets rejected, then it's up to the reviewer itself. The article now, looks well sourced and well-written and there's primarily no such things related to libel. There are many cited sources that primarily talk in-depth about Pauk Ko Taw such as BBC News - that directly mentions Pauk Ko Taw in their article. However, I am really glad that yesterday my first successful draft article is now General Maung Maung Aye. Thank you once again EmeraldRange for your help and assistance! - Yes, it might take a while given there is a prior history of rejection and too many sources- I would try to consolidate the sources on Pauk Ko Taw (you do not need two articles saying the same thing cited at the same time). I saw your Maung Maung Aye article acceptance the other day. Congrats! EmeraldRange (talk/contribs) 20:37, 3 December 2024 (UTC)

- I've resubmitted the draft today and I have fixed most of the legal issues related to libel, which might help the article get a better neutral view of WP:NPOV on a WP:BLP. KhantWiki (talk) 14:20, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
