- One thing I'm unsure of is Mary's father's name; the article had "Arthur/John Woffington"; I read the slash as denoting uncertainty about the first name so I've left "Arthur or John Woffington" in the article, though it might be "Arthur John Woffington" with the slash being a typo. Anyway' I'm sure you'll correct it! :) Cheers, Baffle☿gab 02:49, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Yes that is correct, several equally reliable sources conflict on what her father's name is. Curbon7 (talk) 03:36, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- No problem, that's what I thought, maybe a footnote about the conflict between authors would be useful to readers. Anyway, good luck with your planned GA nom. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 18:17, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

[edit]List of Alpha Phi Omega members
[edit]Just a note, I'm probably responsible for about 95% of the entries on the page (over the last decade or so), and I do have a COI (I'm an Alpha Phi Omega brother) , though I tend to work across the articles on Fraternities and Sororities as well. I've tended to work under the idea that University Presidents should be on the list regardless of whether they have an article given that they have equal level of notability regardless of whether they have an article. The issues of the Torch and Trefoil are available online if that helps, I just haven't gone through the slog of linking them since that doesn't matter to notability. Looking forward to your work.Naraht (talk) 14:00, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- The H symbol was an effort a *long* time ago to change some of the text to a graphic to make it shorter. If that is what makes sense to more closely align it with List of Alpha Phi Alpha brothers, so be it. Note, APO USA and APO Philippines *both* start with Alpha and go to Omega, then Alpha Alpha and so on. Alpha for the USA is Lafayette College, Alpha for the Philippines is Far Eastern University and so on, so *something* needing to distinguish the Philippine chapters from the US chapters is needed. Also there are some brothers from the Philippines which are Honorary brothers of APO-USA (like Carlos Romulo). Given that the change has started, I'm willing to help if you are comfortable that it isn't an edit that COI would cause an issue with. And I am an Alpha Phi Omega brother, *but* the concensus on WP:FRAT has generally been that edits to chapter listing and member listings aren't particularly ones that COI influences, your call.Naraht (talk) 00:22, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
- Naraht, thank you, and good work keeping that list very well-sourced over the years. My knowledge of fraternities is minimal and surface-level (I was once offered a bid for my university's chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, but did not take it due to in-fighting in the chapter). I think any COI you have is minimal here, as this is just a list of notables, so go for it. Curbon7 (talk) 00:31, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
- While I may not theoretically have COI, it *is* an article that I do take a *great* deal of personal pride in. Over the last decade the Alpha Phi Omega national office has started checking its list of Notable members against this article. :) Then you make a wonderful NPOV person on the article. Now what I really should do is take all of the references that are to the Torch and Trefoil (our national magazine) and turn them into cite web and link them appropriate to http://www.apoarchive.org/ .Naraht (talk) 01:00, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

Philippines
[edit]The change you've made simply won't work. With the way that you have it, you haven't added *anything* visible to differentiate between someone who is a member of Alpha chapter of APO-USA and Alpha chapter of APO-Phil. *something* needs to be on each line indicating if the membership is in APO-Phil or APO-USA.Naraht (talk) 01:26, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
- Is (Philippines) next to the chapter name not enough? I'm not sure the ante version is compliant with MOS:FLAG. Curbon7 (talk) 01:35, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
- Ah. Missed that you added (Philippines) in a previous edit. Sorry. Also, if you get the chance, I did add two COI edit templates to the talk page for one row addition and one reference for an unreferenced entry. Also, a request, if you start removing entries, could you that separately so that I can get a clean diff showing which ones are removed for lack of reference?Naraht (talk) 01:54, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
Lieutenant Governors & Generals.
[edit]Looking through the listings, I'm surprised that you consider the Lieutenant Governors of Philippine provinces to be non-notable. I believe that Lieutenant Governors of US States would be considered so, so I think that fits the same rule. Also, I know that WP:NSOLDIER doesn't apply any more, but the question is whether Generals should be in a list like this, I believe that they should. Let me know when you get to the end of the trimming and I'll go through the list of the deleted specifically..Naraht (talk) 14:05, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- As the Philippines is a unitary country, provincial officials do not meet WP:NPOL. My understanding of MOS:LIST is that dynamic lists such as this should only include notable examples (which means (a) currently existing articles, or (b) definitively notable redlinks, such as those who pass NPOL or who blatantly meet WP:GNG). Curbon7 (talk) 20:52, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, didn't see your response. Hmm. Will have to go through TP:GNG more clearly for those. Have you completed the trimming?Naraht (talk) 19:06, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

DRV close
[edit]Hi, I understand that you undid the close, but I actually did not miss any of the facts, and closed the way I did for a reason. I do not consider that nomination to be a request to review of the linked AfD, I don't think that that AfDs close was truly challenged, and I consider that a page reinstatement request for the BJP Annamalai over the existing one. It's a "clear the name to free it up for the other politician" request, and the putative challenge of the AfD close is obviously perfunctory and frankly offensive, I don't take it in good faith, and that AfD was disruptive in and of itself. —Alalch E. 23:08, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
- Considering this, that AfD does not need to be endorsed to stand. —Alalch E. 23:09, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
- I would note however that the filer included the phrase
It doesn't matter to me whether BKA has an article or not, so let us even ignore BKA
several times (though in fairness it seems to quite matter to them), and their original rationale focused primarily on AIADMK Annamalai with little paid to BJP Annamalai until after I WP:HEYed the article. Curbon7 (talk) 23:14, 23 March 2024 (UTC)- Please, consider everything that the nominator wrote as a whole and understand the intent. It is very clearly a tendentious and abuse-of-process request intended to enable the creation of the article about the BJP Annamalai that masquerades as a challenge of the other Annamalai's keep AfD, and it was started during an existing DRV about the BJP Annamalai that was not going well. See how participants suggested literally banning the nominator, adding the page to DEEPER etc. This is not my original reasoning. —Alalch E. 23:20, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
- All in all, you undid my close based on your belief that I didn't have the right facts, and that I misidentified the AfD, but I did actually have the right facts, and I have my reasoning that could be somewhat different than yours, and I stand by my close as a proper and needed close. A moderate difference in opinion should not be a reason for you to undo my close. You should still see my close at least as reasonable. I actually think it's excelletn. I propose that you undo the reversal of the close, because it is not an "improper close" as you wrote.—Alalch E. 23:26, 23 March 2024 (UTC)
- On re-reading the filer also state
I will attempt to put down my arguments to why the page K. Annamalai is not deserved by the subject of it, but instead is deserved by the other guy
, so it's clear what their ultimate intent is, but I would still argue that the topics here are distanced. Regardless, the DRV has been re-closed as endorsed by Pppery. Curbon7 (talk) 23:49, 23 March 2024 (UTC)

[edit]New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
[edit]Hello Curbon7,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

- Rusty4321, Please take more due diligence before CSD tagging. It takes two seconds to check my other articles to know that this is how I start drafts. I do this as a courtesy to other editors while I am still in the research phase. Curbon7 (talk) 18:06, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

ITN recognition for Bob Graham

Blank draft pages
[edit]Hello, Curbon7,
I was looking at our CSD G13 list for April 20, 2024 and saw all of these blank drafts on State legislatures coming due at the 22:32 UTC hour (you can sort the list by time). There is practically no content so I was going to delete them as test edits and then I saw that you were the page creator. So, do you think you are going to create content on them over the next day? If you want to keep blank pages, it's better to keep them in your User space so you don't have to worry about G13 (as long as you don't have an AFC template on the page). Even if you make a minor edit to try to delay deletion, they really should be deleted as test pages as they are simply empty pages with no information. So, assuming that no one else comes across them before you come back to Wikipedia, what do you intend to do with them? At this point, they have existed as blank pages since May 2023. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 05:08, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks Liz. This was a project I never got around to completing and likely will not; I've lost the main source I was using and have been unable to find it again (I think it got removed off of JSTOR). It seems I had forgotten to G7 these. Thanks for reaching out. Curbon7 (talk) 05:35, 20 April 2024 (UTC)
- I wasn't expecting you to tag them CSD G7 but I guess it was one way to resolve the issue and I didn't end up filling up your User talk page with CSD G13 notices! Those draft pages are always there if you want to get the project started up again! Liz Read! Talk! 21:19, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

A complete nonsequitur
[edit]"The only thing I care about here is that the articles I create are sufficiently linked. If there is an applicable country subarticle (1975 in Austria does not currently exist) I always add new creations there, if there is not then I must add to the main year article until such a page is created."
- No, you mustn't add to the main year article. The most appropriate course of action is to create the sub-article. If you can't manage that, it must be because nothing of note happened in that year in Austria. Deb (talk) 18:17, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- I've already created 1975 in Austria myself. Category:1975 in Austria includes plenty of events and such, and it was also the year of the OPEC siege. Curbon7 (talk) 18:22, 24 May 2024 (UTC)

My edit to Miami-Dade County
[edit]Can you like not revert my edits with no probable cause as to you reverting them. I assumed the reason you reverted my edit on the page for Miami-Dade County because of the edit summary and the fact that I forgot to add a source but I didnt think I needed to source it because as you can tell from the map in the infobox it's obvious that it's in the southern half of Florida, but I added it anyway so that you dont revert it back. The info was already there. The source doesnt need to be on the page itself. MidAtlanticBaby (talk) 09:28, 18 June 2024 (UTC)

- I was going to move it to mainspace anyways, as it is a notable and sufficient draft. It is more convenient to move an AFC draft using AFCH, as this automatically cleans up the draft and notifies the creator. This saves at least a few minutes from using the normal page move tool. If you disagree, you are welcome to discuss at WT:AFC or other processes; I always welcome review. Curbon7 (talk) 20:55, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

Drive-by tagging
[edit]Re: your recent (subsequently deleted) contribution to COIN...
I do take your general point, however my feeling was that when I originally tagged the article on 22/8 it was not "drive-by" as I had linked to the ongoing discussion at COIN in my edit summary (albeit that the link didn't actually work as I had intended).
However, if I had done something incorrect (as may well have been the case) I'd be grateful if you could clarify for me, as I do try to abide by the relevant policies and guidelines.
Many thanks, Axad12 (talk) 09:52, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- I removed the word drive-by prior to just reverting the entire comment, as I felt it was indeed poor word choice for that particular situation. My point was that when two stalwart sides are deadlocked like that, it is much more constructive to break that deadlock (in this case through AfD) than to continue it. Curbon7 (talk) 19:53, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, I agree. The whole thing seems to have been complete storm in a teacup. However, at least there is now an AfD where users can disagree over the (at best) borderline claim to notability, rather than a silly ongoing disagreement on the rights or wrongs of the tagging.
- Regards, Axad12 (talk) 03:22, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
