Adding to pages

[edit]

I am adding this template to all the pages linked in the template using WP:AWB. Any questions, feel free to ask, I am watching the page,Sadads (talk) 01:51, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Book order

[edit]

These books appear to be in alphabetical order. Most infoboxes would order these chronologically by first publication date. 128.151.71.16 (talk) 19:26, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I see there are several links that go to the same page in this navigation box (which is something we should avoid according to WP:NAV). I realize that sometimes this cannot be avoided, but it might not be necessary to have so many duplicate links here. One way to reduce the duplicate links would be to remove the collection links next to "Extricating Young Gussie", "Jeeves Makes an Omelette", "Jeeves and the Greasy Bird", "Crime Wave at Blandings", "Birth of a Salesman", and "Sticky Wicket at Blandings". The "Short story collection" section could be changed to "Other short story collections", and My Man, Jeeves, The Inimitable Jeeves, Carry On, Jeeves, Very Good, Jeeves, and Blandings Castle and Elsewhere could be removed from that section. Doing all this would remove 11 duplicate links. Does anyone think it would confuse things too much to pare down the infobox this way, and if so are there any other ways we could reduce the number of duplicate links in this navbox or otherwise improve it as a navigational tool? Looking at the navbox again, I noticed that there are also red links and redirects, and other duplicate links. These should all be avoided in navboxes according to WP:NAV. If there are no objections, I can remove the red links, redirects and other duplicate links (this would mean breaking up the Psmith section, which might be all right since Psmith is not more notable than other Wodehouse characters like Uncle Fred, and Wodehouse's Bibliography page already shows which books are Psmith books). Any thoughts? Miles26 (talk) 03:22, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Redlinks and redirects are fine if they complete a manageable set, of articles that should be written: in most situations its better to leave those in place for folks to find them. Sadads (talk) 02:18, 27 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'll leave the redlinks and redirects alone then. It looks like there are no objections to deleting the duplicate links though, so I'll go ahead and clean those up. I'll also take out some of the short story links to make the template more consistent, but those can be added back if anyone thinks they should be. Miles26 (talk) 19:59, 13 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Reorganization proposal

[edit]

I propose to make the following changes to the navbox:

  1. Move links for adaptations of Wodehouse's works to a new section, titled “Adaptations”, with sub-sections for films, television shows, and so on. This would clarify which links go to works (like musicals and plays) that Wodehouse worked on himself, and which ones go to adaptations.
  2. Add a “Series” section, with links to: Jeeves and Wooster, Blandings Castle, Drones Club, Psmith, Uncle Fred, Mr. Mulliner, The Oldest Member, Ukridge, and School stories. As it is now, the navbox may lead readers to think that there are only three series, or that the School stories are more significant than some of the other series.
  3. Make two new separate navboxes, one for Jeeves (books, characters, adaptations, etc.) and one for Blandings Castle. Each of these two series has many related links and merits a dedicated navbox.
  4. Remove the “Jeeves and Wooster”, “Blandings Castle”, and “School stories” sections, and simply put all novels and short story collections into “Novels” and “Short story collections” sections. Changes #2 and #3 will make those first three sections unnecessary.

I think these changes would help readers understand and navigate links related to Wodehouse's overall body of work. Miles26 (talk) 03:29, 3 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have made the changes. I also made a few other small changes that seemed helpful, which I will note here: I removed the debut years of Wodehouse's stage works for consistency with the links to his other works, separated musicals from plays since Wodehouse is noted for his work on musicals specifically, listed the Jeeves series as just "Jeeves" for consistency with the Jeeves articles, and removed the manga Please, Jeeves link here while adding it to the Jeeves navbox since it doesn't fit well here. I made new Jeeves and Blandings Castle navboxes and will start adding them to the relevant pages. Miles26 (talk) 06:42, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
