This template is wrapper around {{cite encyclopedia}}. In its default mode it attributes text to an article from the Encyclopaedia of Islam, New Edition (or EI2).

This template automatically sets some of the parameters passed into {{cite encyclopedia}}. Over and above the standard parameter passed into {{cite encyclopedia}} there are some additional parameters and those are listed below in a separate table from the table of parameters passed into {{cite encyclopedia}}.

Minimum is: {{Encyclopaedia of Islam, Second Edition}} or {{EI2}}

This template will accept almost all of the same parameters that a native {{cite encyclopedia}} template will accept. Some parameters have special use or are preset to appropriate values. Preset template parameters may be overridden in the template call and may also be disabled by setting the parameter value to unset.
