Tabloids

[edit]

Removing newspaper scans from tabloids is just stupid. These people are only reported about in the tabloids. It is a fact that there was a News Of The World article exposing her "cocaine shame". Whether that article was true or not is not the point, the point is that it was printed, and it was relevant to this section: "Barely halfway through the tournament allegations and photographs emerged of her cocaine-taking past." So I've put it back. You can't just write off hundreds of long-established newspapers on the grounds that they are tabloids, that is just puerile. Istara 14:13, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why?

[edit]

does does she deserve her own wikipedia page? thats like giving every single one of Dennis Rodman's girlfriends a wikipedia page.

Abbey Clancy is much more than that. Although her work has leaned to the glamour side (although she has NEVER done any topless work), she is a household name in the UK now, and is still securing big modelling contracts with firms such as Matalan and Lynx. She also has her big new ITV2 show in the pipeline. She more than deserves her own page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.154.102.195 (talk) 10:39, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is it worth mentioning the above comment (that she has never done topless work) on the main page?--TimothyJacobson (talk) 14:44, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is that a fact...?

[edit]

For an encyclopedia that frowns upon "trivia", such as factual historic data of "human interest" (these being the most didactic elements, as any educator worth that name would agree), I must say quoting sources like the self-styled newspaper "The Sun" and imparting unreferenced statements like the following one:

Clancy briefly dated Jason Statham in 2007, but told The Sun newspaper they were now just friends.Although once, Abigail claimed to have tasted Jason's fecal matter in the form of a bologna sandwich. Let it be noted that it had a nutty flavor.

Block quote

is curious, to put it very, very mildly... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.61.40.40 (talk) 00:08, 26 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That was vandalism. A brief look through the edit history made that clear. The Sun is not quite that nutty and "bologna sandwich" has too many syllables and doesn't rhyme or pun, so isn't in keeping with their writing style. The part about her having a relationship with in him in 2007 is credible, it's just awkward to find a decent citation on the web, this bit of bologna wasn't corrected quickly and propogated far and wide. -- Horkana (talk) 03:00, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sports Illustrated

[edit]

The News of the World claim she will appear in Sports Illustrated. Best wait until we get more and better sources before adding it though. http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/showbiz/652644/Abbey-Clancy-sizzles-in-swimwear-Bet-Crouch-has-an-Abbey-New-Year.html -- Horkana (talk) 04:35, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

She appeared in Sports Illustrated, nude with body paint to look like the English soccer shirt. Unless there was a special British print run she definitely didn't appear on the cover, as the News of the World had dubiously claimed. -- Horkana (talk) 03:00, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Moyles

[edit]

Appeared on the Chris Moyles Quiz, what might be notable and worth a mention is that "Abbey was the winner of the first series of Moyles' quiz show last year." Read more: Daily Mail Reporter (2010-04-12). "Abbey's outfit is in Vogue: Football WAG Clancy wears a Madonna-inspired bra on Chris Moyles' Quiz Night". The Daily Mail. Incidentally, Abbey was the winner of the first series of Moyles' quiz show last year. "Booby Abbey Clancy makes a point". The Sun. -- Horkana (talk) 03:00, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The above has now been incorporated into the article--TimothyJacobson (talk) 18:02, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the cite into the article too, helps indicate her appearances on the show were considered notable. -- Horkana (talk) 02:32, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reference from The Sun

[edit]

There is a reference to The Sun (in the References section). That's not a 'reliable source' like the people on this site want. I can't remove references, so someone else will have to. 94.168.37.41 (talk) 23:13, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WP:RS is a strange rule sometimes but it does not automatically exclude tabloids or lesser newspapers, although I can understand the knee jerk reaction. They do get the basics right most of the time and are subject to libel laws, it is just not a good idea to get into the unnecessary details or relationship gossip, and just stick the basic facts and not the spin the tabloids add to them. As an encyclopedia we should always be careful about what sources we use, big newspapers have faked stories too, and even the National Enquirer sometimes breaks big stories.
If you genuinely doubt the facts presented in a source and have any counter exmaples that is a good reason to choose one source over another but don't rush to exclude them. In any case Rupert Murdoch and others are in a hurry to put it all behind a Paywall so there's a high risk those links will go dead and need to be removed anyhow. -- Horkana (talk) 05:13, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Surname?

[edit]

The first line of this article refers to her as 'Abbey Crouch' (which would make sense since she's married to Peter Crouch). If that's her real name, shouldn't this page be under that title? Or is the article mistaken? Robofish (talk) 18:32, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can have more than one real name - often a 'maiden name' persists for ones professional life, to keep it separate from personal life. Wikipedia follows common usage, which is probably driven by her own wishes. Her professional life is more notable than her personal life. --195.137.93.171 (talk) 22:28, 21 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
