اشکوب

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Persian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾškwp /aškōb/, root, anything by which something is supported), from an Old Iranian verb conjectured from derived terms and Sanskrit स्कम्भ् (skambh, to support). The similarity to the etyma of Arabic أُسْكُفَّة (ʔuskuffa, threshold, lintel) is a coincidence.
