From Parthian *darg, from Proto-Iranian *dára-ka (part, section); cognate with Middle Persian dl (dar, chapter, subject), Sanskrit दल (dala, piece), Lithuanian dalyti (to divide), Russian доля (dolja), делить (delitʹ).
