[edit]From Middle High German vertuon, from Old High German fartuon, firtuon (“to fordo, waste, destroy”), from Proto-West Germanic *fradōn, from Proto-Germanic *fardōną, *fradōną (“to ruin, destroy”). Equivalent to ver- + tun. Cognate with English fordo, Dutch verdoen.
