Compare Turkish sütun, Persian ستون (sotun), from Proto-Iranian *stuHnáH (column, pillar) (compare Avestan 𐬯𐬙𐬏𐬥𐬀 (stūna)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *stʰuHnáH (column, pillar) (compare Sanskrit स्थूणा (sthūṇā)).
