[edit]Compare Turkish sütun, Persian ستون (sotun), from Proto-Iranian *stuHnáH (“column, pillar”) (compare Avestan 𐬯𐬙𐬏𐬥𐬀 (stūna)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *stʰuHnáH (“column, pillar”) (compare Sanskrit स्थूणा (sthūṇā)).
