[edit]From Middle Mongol ᠬᠤᠳᠠ (quda). Compare Mongolian худ (xud), Buryat худа (xuda), Kalmyk худ (xud). Cognate with dialectal Turkish kuda, Crimean Tatar quda, Kumyk къуда (quda), Kazakh құда (qūda), Kyrgyz куда (kuda), Tatar кода (qoda), Bashkir ҡоҙа (qoźa), Chuvash хӑта (hăt̬a).
