[edit]From Middle Dutch goor (“filthy”), from Middle Dutch goor, gore (“mud; dirt”), from Old Dutch *gor, from Proto-Germanic *gurą (“manure; filth”), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰer-. Cognate with Old High German gor, Old Norse gor, Old English gor (English gore).
