[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰh₂eyd-ro-, from *gʷʰh₂eyd- whence also Ancient Greek φαιδρός (phaidrós, “bright, beaming”) and perhaps gaĩsas (“gleam, ray”). Within Baltic, related to Latvian dzidrs, Lithuanian gaidrus.[1]
