[edit]Etymology
[edit]Probably a creation of the poet Vasile Alecsandri, based on French Germinal, the seventh month of the French Republican Calendar, and "Romanianized" or adapted to the language. It is occasionally indicated in some etymologies as an actual popularly inherited word deriving from Latin germen or germinare, although this is less likely.[1][2]
