[edit]Unadapted borrowing from Spanish escrúpulo, from Latin scrūpulus (“scruple, nagging doubt, 1⁄24 uncia”), from scrūpus (“sharp stone, anxiety”) + -ulus (“-ule: forming diminutives”). Doublet of scruple and escropulo.
