dravik

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Dutch

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From Middle Dutch dravik; further origin uncertain:

  • Possibly a derivation from the same source as draf (dregs from grain), and closely related to dreps (Bromus secalinus). For the suffix, compare herik, wederik, and so forth; -ik is a common element in plant names.
  • A connection with Latin dravoca has also been proposed. If so, this word is ultimately related to tarwe.

Compare also English drawk.
