[edit]From to- + uss- + Proto-Celtic *semeti (“pour”), from *semH- (“pump, draw water, scoop”). Cognate with Middle Welsh gwehynnu (“pour”) (from *uɸo-semo-), Old Breton douohinnom (glossing haustum; from *to-uɸo-semo-), Lithuanian sémti (“to pump, scoop”), Latin sentīna (“bilgewater”).
