Borrowed from Omani Arabic بالوز (bālōz), from Arabic باليوز (balyōz), from Ottoman Turkish بالیوز (balyoz), بالیوس (balyos, title of the Venetian ambassador to the Sublime Porte; title of any European envoy), from Venetan bailo (title of a Venetian ambassador).[1]
