bajar

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

Northern Kurdish

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Persian بازار (bâzâr), see there for more. The original meaning was of a marketplace, but it has become city i.e the place where the market is set up, synonymous sûk (marketplace, souq) is also sometimes used as such. For semantic development compare Zazaki şar ("people", originally meaning "city"), Mazanderani کلا (kelâ) ("people", originally meaning "castle"); all from what is set at the city centers or a population.
