[edit]Inherited from Old Galician-Portuguese adega (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), from earlier *abdega, from *abodega, from Latin apothēca, from Ancient Greek ἀποθήκη (apothḗkē, “storehouse”). Doublet of bodega and botica. Compare Portuguese adega.
