milk fever (uncountable)

  1. A type of fever caused by infection, occurring in women shortly after childbirth (previously associated with the start of lactation).
  2. (veterinary medicine) An acute metabolic disorder occurring at the start of lactation and caused by calcium deficiency, which primarily affects dairy cows.
