[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish معما (muʿammā, “a riddle, enigma”)[1] or معمی,[2] from Arabic مُعَمَّا (muʕammā) or مُعَمَّى (muʕammā), from أَعْمَى (ʔaʕmā, “blind (unable to see)”).[3] Cognates with Azerbaijani müəmma.
