The what now?
[edit]Previously the Persian entry stated
- In premodern sources, روم (rum) usually refers to Byzantium or the former Byzantine territories in Anatolia, as medieval Persians did not have any clear knowledge of pre-Byzantine Rome.
Removed/emended as utter nonsense. French peasants didn't have a clear idea of Persia, either, but there were still centuries of interaction that the educated/wealthy could read up on if they so chose. — LlywelynII 18:48, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
Ottoman Turkish
[edit]This page of Redhouse is entirely unclear but seems to be saying a variant form of this word was either ریم or رمِ (Rim). Not sure what the etymology would be either. Persian has رم but it's written رُم and pronounced Rom, neither or which seem to apply here. — LlywelynII 19:54, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
