Etymology
From Proto-Slavic *gospoďa. There was an irregular contraction (*oďa →) *oja → a; the obsolete form gospoja still retains the regular form (compare with earlier contraction *lìpojǫ → *lìpǭ in instrumental singular a-stem ending).
