Réorganisation spatiale de l'activité financière et émergence d'un nouveau centre. Le cas de l'IFSC à Dublin

Julie Ansidei and Rachel Guillain ()

Revue d'économie régionale et urbaine, 2002, vol. avril, issue 2, 217-238

Abstract: Two main factors influence the changes in the spatial organisation of financial institutions : the higher competition in the financial sector and the communication technologies rise. More and more, financial institutions delocalise their standard activities in the cities where the costs are lower by comparison of the traditional financial centres. This trend induces the development of new centres. Based on interviews, we present the case of the International Financial Services Centre created in Dublin in 1987. It appears that the developers and the economies of agglomeration play a major part in attracting and maintaining the financial institutions in the centre. Classification JEL : F23, G2, R3, R58.
