Foreword:
This book contains the proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Signal Processing and Multimedia Applications (SIGMAP 2022), held in Lisbon, Portugal, from July 14-16, 2022. After two difficult years, this 2022 the Conference returns to its traditional face-to-face format although, owing to continuing travel difficulties, we have offered the authors the option to present their work on-line.
The SIGMAP conference series, sponsored and organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), intends to be a meeting place where information exchange occurs and where collaboration projects emerge from social contacts amongst the participants.
The purpose of SIGMAP 2022 is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in information systems and applications, encompassing theory and practice in various heterogeneous and interrelated fields including image, video and audio data processing, new sources
of multimodal data (text, social, health, etc.) and Multimedia Applications related to representation, manipulation, storage, authentication and communication of multimedia data. Multimedia is a research field that includes computing methods in which different modalities are integrated, with the aim to take better advantage from each data source through interaction with the others.
The high quality of the SIGMAP 2022 program is further enhanced by two distinguished keynote lectures, delivered by renowned international experts in their fields:
Dieter Schmalstieg ( Institute for Computer Graphics and Vision at Graz University of Technology, Austria) and Yiannis Kompatsiaris (Director, Information Technologies Institute, CERTH, Greece)
SIGMAP 2022 received high quality paper submissions from diverse countries and to evaluate each submission, a double-blind paper review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members were carefully selected and are highly qualified researchers in SIGMAP topic areas. Based on the provided evaluations, 5 papers were selected as full papers which led to a full paper acceptance ratio of 35%. This strict acceptance ratio shows the intention to preserve a high-quality forum which we expect to develop further next year.
All papers presented at this conference will be available at the SCITEPRESS Digital Library and a short list of authors of selected papers will be invited to submit extended and revised versions of their papers for a book that will be published by Springer as the best papers of SIGMAP 2022.
Also, a short list of papers presented will be selected for publication of extended and revised versions in a special issue of Springer Nature Computer Science Journal .
We would like to express our thanks to all participants, and particularly to the authors, whose quality works provide the essence of this conference. Secondly, we owe a debt of gratitude to all members of the Program Committee and auxiliary reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We would also like to deeply thank the invited speakers for the excellent contribution in sharing their knowledge and vision.
A successful conference involves more than paper presentations alone. It is also a meeting place, where ideas about new research projects and other ventures are discussed and debated. Therefore, a social event including a conference dinner/banquet has been planned for the evening of July 14th in order to promote social networking of conference participants.
Finally, a word of appreciation for the hard work of the INSTICC team; organizing a conference of this international scale is a task that can only be achieved by the collaborative effort of a dedicated and highly capable and energetic team.
We hope that you have enjoyed the conference and we look forward to seeing you again in future editions of SIGMAP.
