[origin: EP2116643A1] A method for selecting needles and a flatbed knitting machine that can shorten the carriage running stroke and enhance the knitting efficiency are provided. When a trailing needle selecting mechanism 6a enters the preliminary needle selection section, the needle selecting mechanism 6a is controlled by the controller 62 so as not to disarray the preliminary needle selection state.
