Abstract (en)
[origin: DE19702983C1] A new method sinks boreholes, especially for exploration and production. The drill string (5) carries a combination head (10) comprising cutter(s) (29) and a guide tip. The cutting head can be raised, retracting it from the guide tip (22). It can also be lowered into a working position, level with the end of the tip (21) or even projecting beyond it. Drilling commences with the cutter retracted until the guide tip, working in the ground, locates and positions the end of the drill string. The cutters are then lowered relative to the tip, to make the bore, especially in hard ground. Also claimed is the corresponding drilling equipment.
