A downloadable game for Windows

A hardboiled noir detective shoots his inner demons away...

Made in 48 hours for the GameMaker's Toolkit Jam! (2017)

"Roaring Streets!" is a turn-based shooter in which every mechanic is tied to the arrow keys.

How does the submission match the jam's theme?

In "Roaring Streets", every mechanic can be controlled through the player's turn based movement. Move to evade enemies, or move into enemies to shoot them. But with every move, the game cycles through your inventory of weapons, forcing you to have to balance evasion, attacks, and gun types within a single movement. The movement mechanic serves a triple purpose!

The game currently runs on Windows only. Sorry!

very short but very nice!

Really short, but fun! I enjoyed the gameplay, I think it wasnt too hard to grasp and fun to operate with. would definetely like to see this concept used in other projects! Also I think simple graphics added a good specific feel to the whole thing

Fun concept. Feels like it might be possible to flesh out more. Compared to other games that were real-time, the turn-based gameplay made it way less frustrating to anticipate weapon changes.

Thats one of the best simple and great games ive ever played. Please add a few more levels as a level based game or add some simple story to this amazing character and dive deep in this game you made.

If you fell add anything new please let me know, I would love to play more.

One of the best games I've ever played on Itch. The serious question - why don't you make it a full game? Or are you working on it already?

hey, great game! So much so that i'm inspired to put my own twist on it and make a game, would that be alright?

What you make is up to you! Personally I myself was inspired by games like Crypt of the Necrodancer/Ending when I was making this game, but I tried to differentiate the mechanics/aesthetic in order to give it its own distinct identity. Best of luck!

Haha yeah I could tell there was some necrodancer inspiration in there! Personally I wanted to make a version where the weapon switching mechanic you put in is tied to everything, instead of switching the weapon I was thinking of switching the color of the enemies and all interactables every 3 moves the player makes.

absolutely amazing! would love to see a full game of this.

great game!

Hi, love the game!! Just curious, what game engine (if any) did you use to make it?

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! I made this using GameMaker Studio (version 1.4).

Hello! I adored your game, it had a wonderfully bouncy style as well as awesome mechanics and an interesting little story! I made a let's play of your game here~

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the game, and I really liked your video too!

You're more than welcome! I'm super glad you liked my video :D

 v intresting + great art

Really, really, really cool. Do you have any thoughts about releasing the source code for someone to possibly develop a level editor? This game mechanic could top Steed's Ending!

Thanks! Ending is soo satisfying. I don't know yet about releasing the source code, but I am planning on developing this game further, so I might try to build a level editor on my own.

Oh, okay! Great :) Either way!

Beautiful art style and the useage of the mechanics is brilliant. Very well done and for 48 hours a small masterpiece <3

That was a lot of fun! The graphics felt incredible—and I do mean felt—the little hops were so splashy, and the gunfire felt so punchy! Incredible game.

The feel of the game and the mechanics are just fantastic, would love to see it fleshed out into a story driven experience of some kind!

This was so much fun, if it was a fully fleshed out game, it would probably be my favourite game ever!

This is brilliant and tons of fun!

:D I'm glad you found it fun!

Cool mechanics :D

Thank you!

Good to hear!

Really cool! We want more levels!

Post-jam version! Post-jam version! Post-jam version!

Awesome game! I thought it was very clever to give the main mechanic of the genre a dual purpose. Also, very polished! I love it!

Very stylish. Very cool.

The world needs more Roaring Streets. Make it so.

This game is absolutely fantastic! I'd definitely love to see this project continued (and would absolutely be up for working on it)!

this is amazing!

Thanks!
