Baltimore, MD – (October 1, 2024) Maryland Department of Disabilities Secretary Carol A. Beatty announced the appointment of Wayne Reed as the Housing Policy Director. His first day was September 4, 2024.
"We are so pleased to welcome Mr. Reed to the Department of Disabilities," said Secretary Beatty. "His knowledge and years of experience in housing policy, as well as his previous partnerships with our department in other roles, make him an excellent candidate to serve as the new Housing Policy Director."
Mr. Reed has sixteen years of Home and Community-Based Medicaid waivers experience with the Maryland Department of Health. In his previous role as the Money Follows the Person (MFP) Project Director, he worked collaboratively with others to transition 3,000 persons with disabilities leaving institutional for community settings as MFP participants. His partnership with the Developmental Disabilities Administration (MDH-DDA), as part of the MFP program, led to the closure of two state residential facilities, the Rosewood and Brandenburg Centers.
At his core, he is an advocate and special educator, who has spent considerable time with children and adults with disabilities in a variety of settings. Mr. Reed has worked closely with MDOD and the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) for many years as part of the Maryland Partnership for Affordable Housing collaboration.
"I am excited to join the team at MDOD," said Mr. Reed. "I look forward to the creation of more affordable and accessible housing for Marylanders with disabilities."
Mr. Reed is a graduate of the University of Maryland (B.S. Government & Politics) and Johns Hopkins University (M.S. Special Education). His greatest joy is spending time with his two adult children, Sarai and Michael.
