Ron J. Volesky is an attorney and former member of the South Dakota State Senate. At the State Democratic Party Convention, he was nominated as a candidate for the statewide office of attorney general, challenging incumbent Republican Marty J. Jackley in the 2010 election.[1] His loss in the general election on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010 marked the third time in a row that he has failed in his attempt to be elected to the statewide position.

In 2014, after U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D) announced his retirement, Volesky announced that he was considering a run for U.S. Senate.[2]

Political career

Volesky has operated in various capacities within South Dakota politics for both major parties. He served three years as city commissioner for Huron and later spent sixteen years within the State Senate. Volesky has twice been thwarted in his attempt to campaign for governor. He first tried for the state executive office in 2002, but lost in the four-way Democratic primary. Four years later, Volesky once again sought the Democratic nomination, only to abandon his bid in February 2006 due to a lack of sufficient funds.
