Rochelle S. Friedman was a senior judge on the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court. She was first elected to the court in November 5, 1991 (effective the following January) to a 10-year term, defeating incumbent Judge Robert L. Byer. She was retained for a second 10-year term on November 6, 2001. She reached the mandatory age of retirement in 2009.[1]
Education
Friedman received her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.
Professional career
Prior to her election to Commonwealth Court, Friedman practiced law in private practice primarily in the areas of criminal, first amendment and family law. She served as a judicial law clerk to Judge James R. McGregor of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and as solicitor to Robert N. Peirce, Clerk of Courts of Allegheny County.
Friedman directed two Governor’s Justice Commission Projects and was an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health.
Education
Friedman was married to the late Irwin Mark Samuels.
