Paula Hawks
Paula Hawks is the chair of the South Dakota Democratic Party. She was elected to the position by the party's central committee in March 2019.[1]
Hawks is a former Democratic member of the South Dakota House of Representatives representing District 9 from 2013 to 2017. Hawks served as minority whip in 2015.
Hawks was a 2016 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the At-Large Congressional District of South Dakota. She was defeated in the general election.[2]

Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated South Dakota's U.S. House race as safely Republican. Incumbent Kristi Noem (R) defeated Paula Hawks (D) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Neither candidate faced a primary opponent in June.[3]

2014
Elections for the South Dakota House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014. The general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 25, 2014. Incumbent Paula Hawks and Holly Boltjes-Johnson were unopposed in the Democratic primary. Incumbent Steve Hickey and Bob Deelstra were unopposed in the Republican primary. Boltjes-Johnson withdrew after the primary, and was replaced by Becky Jaspers on the general election ballot. Hawks (D) and Hickey (R) defeated Jaspers (D) and Deeltra (R) in the general election.[4][5][6]

2012
Hawks won election in the 2012 election for South Dakota House of Representatives District 9. Hawks replaced Holly Boltjes-Johnson on the general election ballot. Hawks won election in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[7]
