Jane Greenspan
Jane Cutler Greenspan was an associate justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. She was appointed to this position in 2008 by Ed Rendell, the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania, to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Ralph Cappy. Consistent with expected tradition for interim appointees, Judge Greenspan left the court when her term expired in December of 2009.[1]
Career
Greenspan was first elected to the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas in 1989 after a career in the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. Ed Rendell was Philadelphia's district attorney at that time; he put Greenspan in charge of domestic violence cases and, in 1980, asked her to lead the DA's appellate division. Greenspan served in that position from 1980 to 1987.[2]
Prior to her appointment to Pennsylvania's highest court, Greenspan was a judge for 20 years with the Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas.[3]
As a Democrat, the appointment of Greenspan shifted the partisan balance on the court to a Democratic majority.[3]
