英語の本を読んでいて、"There is more than one answer." という一文がありました。 これは文法的に、どう分解されるのでしょうか。 "There is more / than one answer" (一つの答え以上がある) なのか、 "There is (more than one) answer" (一つ以上の答えがある) なのか、ということです。 いずれにしても "There are" の方が適切な気がするのですが、どうなのでしょうか。 自分で書くとしたら、"There are more than one answers." と書いてしまいそうですが、間違っていますか。 納得できる説明を期待しています。 (気分で書いただけの推測コメントにはポイントを差し上げないことがあります。)
