So Matt Gaetz wasn’t the principled newcomer. Turns out he wasn’t taking a stand, but was instead using the Speaker vote to gain more power for himself. Now we have a California RINO as speaker and Gaetz has a committee to weild power over.
The Republicans aren’t interested in saving America, just power for its own sake.

The military vaccine trail that was closed to public by order of the senate is over now so the distraction isn’t needed anymore.

I don’t know what else one would suspect. You had, what over 200 Republicans who supported McCarthy and 20 who didn’t, along with another 212-ish Dems pushing for a coalition vote. So, given the bsalance of 420-ish vs 20, I don’t know how you can expect those 20 to “win” the vote or force another candidate in. All they could do is exactly what they did — make it so painful that they got some concessions.
And, those concessions were iimportant — no omnibus spending, one person vote of no confidence, spending cap, reduction in government officials salaries, and votes on term limits, and debt caps, and the guarantee of 72 hours to review a bill before a vote.
Personally, I think they did a good job. If they didn’t agree, then you would get a coalition speaker.

The paradox is that without the power he just “sold out” for, he can’t do anything.
It’s an argument I’ve been having with the staff of my many MANY year representative for a long time.
He doesn’t introduce bills and avoids being put on committees. He just shows up and votes. With his seniority, he could have power, but he shuns it out of principles.
Making him about useless for getting us what we want from him.

How exactly do you expect the few who opposed McCarthy to have any power over his Frank Luntz ass loving ass unless he gets a committee? It remains to be seen what’s going to come of this slim GOP House, but by not rubber stamping McCarthy there’s less Uniparty control over half the legislative branch of Gov’t.
No, I don’t think it’s going to save us, I don’t think any criminal member of gov’t is going to see jail time (the DC court that found Sussman not guilty proved that), but the next 2 years isn’t about law and order anymore, it’s about punishing the RINO Uniparty, revealing what they are, and sending the Republican party to the graveyard of American political history to lie next to its ancestor, the Whig party.
Look, we’re all smart people here, we can all see patterns because we study history. The US is as divided today as it was in the 1850s, we just had the longest House Speaker election since the 1850s, we have a Republican party that is as feckless as the Whig Party was in the 1850s, so if the 2020s is repeating the 1850s what do you think comes next?
2024 will be 1860 all over again.

How do they have power over him? By making sure he never becomes speaker. Yeah, 20 Republicans aren’t enough to put a particular candidate in the Speaker’s chair, but they are enough to keep a particularly bad one out of it.
At that point, the Republican party is left with a couple of choices. They can cut a deal with Democrats and put a compromise candidate in there, thus exposing themselves as the useless sellouts that we have known them to be for years, or they can put in a candidate that isn’t a RINO.
By caving in, the 20 have exposed themselves for what they are- typical politicians who use expediency as an excuse to get more power for themselves. In other words, typical Republicans.
As I have said on this blog for years- Just because Democrats are your enemy doesn’t mean that Republicans are your friends.
